I’ve never really been a guestlist kinda gal. Even at university I preferred a night in with a new Yankee Candle and some Maltesers than the latest club opening but when you throw cocktails in the mix (pun totally intended), you know I’ll be there. I am the dessert cocktail queen after all.
So as you can imagine, when I was invited to sample the brand new Liverpool Collection Cocktail List, my disco belly got going ten to the dozen. Brought to you by the brains behind Liverpool Gin and inspired by the city’s history in trading and imports, the cocktail repertoire peeps back into a time when rum, whisky, tobacco, sugar, cane and spine were coming in and out of the infamous Liverpool docks.
Featuring Liverpool Gin, Liverpool Whisky, Liverpool Rum and Liverpool Vodka, the menu offers everything from a Fizzy Fella mixed with gin, prosecco and bitters right through to a super sweet and devilishly indulgent Vanilla Mersey mixed with vodka, chocolate and cinnamon. There’s even a Liverpool Lolly recipe, complete with boozy ice lolly (or lolly ice – whichever side of the water you’re from). The brand describes the list as ‘a portfolio Liverpool can call its own’ and I’m 100% on board. Ahoy!
As one of the biggest players on the Independent Liverpool scene, Liverpool Gin has been around for a while. I hate to be that person but I was loving Liverpool Gin before Liverpool Gin was Liverpool Gin and now it’s behind bars and in homes all over the gaff. We served it up at a business networking event way back in 2013 when the brand was just building up momentum so I definitely felt a little pang of pride perusing the bespoke cocktail menu. Good on ya, guys.
The setting for the rather swanky launch party was the NYL Restaurant & Bar in the Aloft Hotel on Liverpool’s North John Street. Not far from Salthouse Bacaro, Barton Rouge or Neighbourhood Liverpool and just up the road from Mowgli Water Street, this Manhattan-inspired eatery is in strong culinary company.
The NYL Restaurant & Bar describes itself as ‘a taste of New York in Liverpool’ and you know how much I love the Big Apple so this obviously caught my attention. I mean, if this was a dating app and that was its bio, I would definitely be swiping right (or is it left? I don’t know, I’ve been with my beautiful ball and chain since before Tinder was a thing) for NYL Liverpool.
I’ve got my eyes firmly fixed on that brand new menu so watch this space for a review coming soon. Interiors often speak volumes about the grub so if the sophisticated décor is anything to go by, it’s gonna be a goodun.
Leave it with me; I’ll get back to you on that.
