Porky’s Ski Hutte: new pig on the Berry Street block

This is not a drill. We will soon be approaching pigs in blankets season and what better way to get in the pre-festive spirit than with the launch of a brand new Après Ski-inspired bar in Liverpool city centre? Forget The Alps – who needs budget battering plane tickets and a bad case of snow burn (yep, that is a thing) when you ca live your best Alpine life right here on little old Berry Street.

It’s true; the youth of Liverpool have been in a state of grief since their main provider of cheap cocktails and plentiful pizza was torn tragically from their grips. Legend has it that the ghost of Tribeca past still paces Berry Street, from the Chinese Arch to the Bold Street and back but last night it got a very loud and very exciting awakening.

Standing loud and proud where Tribeca once is Porky’s Ski Hutte – an Après Ski-style watering hole where the three little piggies can huff and puff all they like but the party wolves are most definitely out to play. We’ve been promised a late night bar with fun at the forefront of its operations and if last week’s launch party was anything to go by, I can promise you’re in for a real treat.

Liverpool is King of kooky and is now home to a whole host of weird and wonderful bars (yes Kiosk, I’m looking at you) and Porky’s is the new kid on the block. Split into two floors, countless booths and an eclectic collection of seated nooks & crannies, Porky’s Ski Hutte is marvelous maze of wooden décor, neon lighting and trendy upholstery. I mean, I could have told you these guys were slick lizards from the red carpet entrance we were greeted by and the Prosecco cocktail that was thrust into my hands before I’d even had chance to cop a load of the lycra-clad DJ scratchin’ some vinyls from an elevated cable car 10 foot in the air.

As the only place serving up unpasteurised Pilsner Urqell Tank Beer in Liverpool, it’s clear the brains behind Porky’s have done their research. The addition of a second bar, a fully kitted out stage and a temperature controlled conservatory for the real Après Ski experience got the seal of approval from me and the 7-day-a-week opening hours are a real winner too.

Porky’s have promised a booming calendar of live bands and DJ sets so keep your peepers peeled people. Meanwhile, I’ll be propping up the cocktail bar just waiting for Christmas. If you’re a eager festive beaver like yours truly, check out the Chaophraya Liverpool Christmas Menu while you’re here cause you’re gonna need something to soak up all that fancy shmancy tipple.

Cheers!
