The best (independent) January offers in Liverpool

Okay here’s the thing: last night my other half and I booked a spontaneous mid-year trip where we’ll be spending half the week in Iceland’s stunning Reykjavik and the other half in New York City. Here’s the other thing: we bloody love eating out – in fact sadly, it’s probably our main hobby. So do you see my problem? With Icelandic krona to account for and dollar$ to factor into the equation, we’re going to have to start being a little bit more frugal about our food-based activities over the next few weeks.

Beans on toast would definitely get old fast in our house so I’ve done some digging around the old tinterweb and found some of the best January offers the Liverpool food and drink scene has to offer. These aren’t just any old eateries or watering holes though, these are some of the city’s most treasured independent venues. I do like to snap up any chance I get to shout about local and/or small businesses. So now I’ve done your homework for you, all that’s left to do is don your eating pants, loosen the top button and chow down.

The deal: 2 curry tiffin boxes & rice for £9.95

Mowgli Street Food Liverpool

The deal: As you’ll know by now, Mowgli is one of my absolute favourites and serves up traditional Indian street food with a certain charm and modern sophistication. Offer is valid Monday-Friday, 12pm-5pm until January 31st at the Liverpool Water Street restaurant.

The Brink

The deal: Daily Brink Bargain for £4.95

The deal: Perhaps one of Liverpool’s most unique concepts, ‘Brink’ is a dry bar and modern cafe. This means every beverage on the menu is sans alcohol which if you’re giving a Dry January a run for it’s money is great news. Until the end of the month you can grab a Daily Brink Bargain or the winter vegetable lasagne for less than five squid.

Il Forno

The deal: 20% off the a la carte menu

The deal: I’m yet to tick Il Forno off my own to-eat list but on the promise of ‘fine art Italian dining’, it’s definitely somewhere I’ll consider more seriously when my next spaghetti craving takes hold. With 20% off the a la carte menu (Sunday-Friday) until the end of the month, January might just be the perfect time. If you’re following in my footsteps, don’t forget to quote ‘NY20’ when you book online or over the phone.

Lucha Libre

The deal: 40% off food when you tag @luchaliverpool / #VivaLucha

The deal: The best Mexican in town, hands (and sombreros) down. From breakfast burritos and tasty tacos to dirty fries and chocolate churros, I’m taking Lucha’s January offer as the perfect excuse to just order 40% more food. It’d be rude not to, right? More info below.

Crazy Pedro’s

The deal: £2 pizza slices and £10 whole pizzas

The deal: One of the things Liverpool does particularly well is pizza and Crazy Pedro’s was a very welcome new addition to the scene earlier this year. Our new kid on the block is offering discounted edibles until January 31st for you to scran around the pinball table.

The deal: 5 plates & a carafe of wine for £15pp

The deal: I included Maray in my Liverpool Independents’ Week roundup and for bloody good reason too. These guys are wizards of small plate magic and have fast become one of the hottest hangouts in the city for cocktails and culinary delight. The January deal will be available Monday-Thursday, 5-7pm until the end of the month and I implore you to check it out.

Almost Famous

The deal: 50% off all burgers and 2-4-1 cocktails

Almost Famous Wonderburger Liverpool Food and Drink Festival 2017

The deal: Think it’s about time these guys changed their name to Very Frickin’ Famous as they’ve reigned king burger joint for a good wee while now. The Almost Famous Liverpool half price offer and BOGOF cocktails will be knocking about from 3-7pm everyday until the end of the month.

London Carriage Works

The deal: A bottle of wine couple dining from the prix fixe/a la carte menu

The deal: If the only dry thing about your January is a nice Sauvignon Blanc then you’ll love the Carriage Work’s Wine & Dine offer of a free bottle of plonk per couple eating 2 or more courses from the prix fixe or a la carte menus. Available Monday-Thursday until February 8th.

Slim’s Pork Chop Express

The deal: 30% off your food bill

Slims Pork Chop Express Liverpool roast dinner

The deal: Serving up one of the most sought after Sunday roasts in town alongside a menu of mouthwatering street food style dishes including Confit Duck Fries and Pulled Lamb, Slim’s is the place to be. Catch the discount until January 31st.

Salt Dog Slim’s

The deal: Free hot dog with your first beer

The deal: You’ve already heard me wax lyrical about the Salt Dog’s hot dogs and cocktails after my Weekend at Salty’s but these guys are currently offering a free dog with your first beer. They don’t champion ‘steins and brines’ for nothing y’know. Word on the street says Salty is also shaking up a selection of £5 cocktails through Sunday-Friday.

Wreckfish Bistro

The deal: 3 courses for £20

The deal: Seel Street’s brand new eatery, Wreckfish is on my to-eat list for 2018 but considering my admiration for it’s sister restaurant over on the Wirral (Burnt Truffle), I’ve got hopes as high as the sky. The ‘early doors’ January offer is available Monday-Friday 12-12.30 and Monday-Thursday 6-7.

The deal: 50% off your food bill

The deal: Sitting pretty on the city’s Tempest Hey, HUS is one of the places that makes Liverpool’s commercial district so… cool – alongside other hidden gems like the Vincent Cafe & Cocktail Bar and One Fine Day. Loved for it’s tank beer bar and Scandi interior vibes, I’ve also heard HUS serves up the Vegan Breakfast to end all vegan breakfasts. Offer available Monday-Friday 5-9pm until January 31st.

El Bandito

The deal: Selected £5 cocktails during Happy Hour

el bandito tequila cocktail bar liverpool

The deal: The last time I came across these notorious Tequila-slingers was at Cocktails in the City so I think it’s high time I rekindle my love for a good Vanilla’s in the Mist.

Santa Chupito

The deal: Selected £5 cocktails during Happy Hour

The deal: Home of the infamous Liverpool 5 Dollar Shake, Santa Chupito is no stranger to a Hungry Harriet homage. They’ve already featured in my Top 10 Dessert Cocktails to try before you die so as you can imagine, I’m pretty chuffed to here these guys are also offering discounted cocktails this month.
