The best (independent) January offers in Liverpool

Okay here’s the thing: last night my other half and I booked a spontaneous mid-year trip where we’ll be spending half the week in Iceland’s stunning Reykjavik and the other half in New York City. Here’s the other thing: we bloody love eating out – in fact sadly, it’s probably our main hobby. So do you see my problem? With Icelandic krona to account for and dollar$ to factor into the equation, we’re going to have to start being a little bit more frugal about our food-based activities over the next few weeks.

Beans on toast would definitely get old fast in our house so I’ve done some digging around the old tinterweb and found some of the best January offers the Liverpool food and drink scene has to offer. These aren’t just any old eateries or watering holes though, these are some of the city’s most treasured independent venues. I do like to snap up any chance I get to shout about local and/or small businesses. So now I’ve done your homework for you, all that’s left to do is don your eating pants, loosen the top button and chow down.

Mowgli

The deal: 2 curry tiffin boxes & rice for £9.95

Mowgli Street Food Liverpool

The deal: As you’ll know by now, Mowgli is one of my absolute favourites and serves up traditional Indian street food with a certain charm and modern sophistication. Offer is valid Monday-Friday, 12pm-5pm until January 31st at the Liverpool Water Street restaurant.

The Brink

The deal: Daily Brink Bargain for £4.95

The deal: Perhaps one of Liverpool’s most unique concepts, ‘Brink’ is a dry bar and modern cafe. This means every beverage on the menu is sans alcohol which if you’re giving a Dry January a run for it’s money is great news. Until the end of the month you can grab a Daily Brink Bargain or the winter vegetable lasagne for less than five squid.

Il Forno

The deal: 20% off the a la carte menu

The deal: I’m yet to tick Il Forno off my own to-eat list but on the promise of ‘fine art Italian dining’, it’s definitely somewhere I’ll consider more seriously when my next spaghetti craving takes hold. With 20% off the a la carte menu (Sunday-Friday) until the end of the month, January might just be the perfect time. If you’re following in my footsteps, don’t forget to quote ‘NY20’ when you book online or over the phone.

Wreckfish Bistro

The deal: 3 courses for £20

The deal: Seel Street’s brand new eatery, Wreckfish is on my to-eat list for 2018 but considering my admiration for it’s sister restaurant over on the Wirral (Burnt Truffle), I’ve got hopes as high as the sky. The ‘early doors’ January offer is available Monday-Friday 12-12.30 and Monday-Thursday 6-7.

HUS

The deal: 50% off your food bill

The deal: Sitting pretty on the city’s Tempest Hey, HUS is one of the places that makes Liverpool’s commercial district so… cool – alongside other hidden gems like the Vincent Cafe & Cocktail Bar and One Fine Day. Loved for it’s tank beer bar and Scandi interior vibes, I’ve also heard HUS serves up the Vegan Breakfast to end all vegan breakfasts. Offer available Monday-Friday 5-9pm until January 31st.

The deal: Home of the infamous Liverpool 5 Dollar Shake, Santa Chupito is no stranger to a Hungry Harriet homage.
