How to keep your kitchen in tip top condition

The kitchen is place of wonder. It is the heart of the home. It’s the place you go to for a cup of tea when you’re chilly, a spoon (or three) of Nutella when you’re feeling glum or a G&T when the weekend rolls round. Whether it’s naughty snacks at midnight or a breakfast feast on a lazy Sunday morning, it’s the kitchen where the real magic happens. So because we love our kitchens, we need to make sure that they’re properly looked after, right?

Kitchens can be as complex or as simple as you want them to be, it all just depends on your style and personal preference. Some people like to disinfect each and every dial on the cooker before work every morning, some people leave plates piled high in the sink for days. However stringent your kitchen hygiene, here are some basic things you should know if you want to keep your kitchen in mint condition…

Only use good quality appliances

Without our trusty appliances, there would be no kitchen. Well, there would but there would be a great deal of things we couldn’t do and recipes we could never create. No roast dinners… no homemade cakes… no peanut butter & banana smoothies… need I go on? Investing in good quality appliances from the beginning will save you a great deal of aggro and money in the long run but you do still need to give them adequate TLC from time to time. You don’t have to pay for these things all at once now either – they even do bloody boiler finance these days – so you really can make room in your budget for the good stuff.

Keep it squeaky clean

As tempting as it might be to leave the pots ‘in soak’ for a little while after a particularly frantic dinner party prepping session, we all know that ‘little while’ can soon turn into hours, even days. Kitchens really need to be the cleanest place in the whole gaff so as boring as I might sound right now, it really is essential that you stay on top of your kitchen hygiene.

Take the oven for example, overtime so much filth will have accumulated inside that it’ll take you a lot of time and energy to scrub it all down and make it clean again. However if you give it a complete wipe down every few days after using it, it will always be spotless. The same goes for the cooker, the grill, and anything else you tend to use a lot.

Use it with love

If you don’t tend to cook homemade dishes that often and instead tend to just heat up various microwave meals, try stepping out of your comfort zone from time to time. Take advantage of the potential in front of you. You don’t have to be an amazing cook in order to cook. I certainly ain’t. It’s way more than that. So when you have a few free hours and want to kill time, pull up a delicious looking recipe online and just get stuck in. You may just find that you’ve unearthed a brand new hobby or you may just figure out a way of not burning your chicken to a crisp anymore – either way, it’s a win-win situation.
