Review of the Melitta® LOOK® V Therm Timer coffee machine

Our verdict of the Melitta® LOOK® V Therm Timer filter coffee machine

Some of the items I dislike most in the world of food and drink are some of the items many of you reading this would most likely be quite content on being hardwired to an IV drip of. I’m talking smashed avocado, mojitos, beer and perhaps most gasp-inducing of all – coffee.

When I’m all sleepy-eyed and drowsy, or just hankering after that hug-in-a-mug feeling I’m a tea with (soya) milk and no sugar kinda gal. My partner, on the other hand, is a bit of a coffee connoisseur and recently in the market for a new coffee machine so when I got offered the chance to review the new Melitta® LOOK® V Therm Timer, it was a hard YES from us.

Keep scrolling to find out more about this rather marvellous gadget and why it has now taken up permanent residence in my kitchen and managed to steal the heart of a dedicated non-coffee-drinker…

I’ll start by giving you the facts first…

Okay, so, the machine comes with an “unbreakable” and “shockproof” double-walled stainless steel jug with EasyClick lid, and a transparent, detachable water tank. It also comes with an AromaSelector dial on the top so that you can choose how strong you’d like your coffee on a scale of mild ‘n’ mellow to blow-your-brains-out rocket fuel.

The Melitta® LOOK® V Therm Timer has an inbuilt timer feature (with LED display) and a 3-in-1 calc protector with various water hardness settings and an LED display to warn you when the machine needs descaling. It comes in a choice of black or white and currently retails at £119.99.

Right, now onto the verdict… drum roll please…

It’s bloody awesome! It’s not the smallest piece of kit but it is still super neat and compact, slotting perfectly on the counter just under our kitchen cupboards. Each of the various parts is simple but robust so you can really tell it’s built to last without being complicated to use or a pain in the butt to keep clean. As is advertised, the water tank slots off without any struggle and displays cup count markers so you know how far to fill it depending on how big your ‘brew round’ is.

The machine comes with a 4-pack of Melitta® Gourmet AromaPor Plus filters so as long as you’ve got some of your favourite ground coffee in the cupboard, you’ll be good to go straight away. The filters are brown in colour – rather than the typical white ones you see – because they are 100% compostable and therefore much, much kinder to our precious planet. The filters are also neutral in taste and promise to be tear-proof so worth making the swap from your regular non-compostable option in my opinion.

Unlike most filter coffee machines, this one means you can pre-brew your morning coffee before your alarm has even set off. We set our timer for the next morning and true to its word, as soon as the clock struck 8.30am, the machine kicked into action and started steaming away. It only took a few minutes to brew and the anti-drip design means there is literally zero mess left behind. It made a top tier cup of coffee – so I’m told – and made the house smell absolutely divine, just like a proper little coffee shop.

So, I might not have been converted into a coffee-drinker yet but the simplicity and cleanliness of this machine, along with how fabulous it makes the whole house smell as its brewing certainly has me charmed. My only small irk was that it promises to keep coffee warm “for a long time” but I would say the coffee in the jug has dipped to a lukewarm level after about 2.5 hours but still, a kitchen addition I highly recommend.

I was very kindly invited to review the Melitta® LOOK® V Therm Timer as a press sample but all words, photographs, opinions, teeth, hair, boobs and nails are my very own.
